EM:DEF's Multimedia Library was created to educate, inform, and document the "War on Club Drugs" (as well as the broader "War on Drugs").


 

D.C. RAVE Act protest, Shawn Heller - On Friday September 6th, 2002, opponents of the the RAVE Act held a protest-rave on the West Lawn of the Capital Building in Washington D.C..  Ravers Organized Against the Rave act (R.O.A.R.) and Buzzlife Productions did a great job putting together an event that was an unqualified success.  The following week Senator Leahy withdrew his support of the RAVE Act and removed his name from the list of co-sponsors.  One of the stand out speakers that addressed the audience assembled on the Capital Lawn that day was Shawn Heller, National Director of Students for a Sensible Drug Policy (S.S.D.P.).

Legislative Hearing on the House version of the RAVE Act (H.R. 5519) - Audio from the October 10th, 2002, House Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security hearing on the House version of the RAVE Act.  Witnesses include Asa Hutchinson - Director of the DEA, Andrea Craparotta - Investigator, Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, New Jersey, Judy Kreamer - President of Educating Voices, Inc., and Graham Boyd - Director of ACLU's Drug Policy Litigation Project.  In addition to the audio from the hearing you can read the text of the written testimony submitted by Graham Boyd and Asa Hutchinson

State Palace Theatre after McClure v. Ashcroft victory - See pictures of the band who sued the U.S. government in McClure v. Ashcroft and won!  On February 9th, 2002, eight days after their courtroom victory, Rabbit In the Moon, armed with several thousand "chemical light sticks", took the stage at the State Palace Theatre where they played to a packed house. 



 

Ecstasy & Club Drugs Conference - The DEA held it's Ecstasy and Club Drugs Conference in Arlington, VA in 1999.  This video includes clips of key DEA testimony, including comparisons between raves and crackhouses by DEA Officials.

DEA Video: Dancing With Darkness - At the Ecstasy and Club Drugs Conference, the DEA provided representatives of several law enforcement agencies with a video which identifies raves and dance clubs as places where club drugs are predominantly sold.  These clips from the video demonstrate both the focus of the DEA on targeting nightclubs and raves, as well as their disdain for electronic music culture.

DEA History (1973-Present) - This video has clips of each president from Richard Nixon to Bill Clinton tracing the growth in spending on "The War on Drugs".  Robert McGuinness of The Family Research Council explains that some Civil Liberties must take a back seat in a dangerous society.  Robert MacNamera, a retired Police Chief, comments about the War on Drugs - and it's threat to American people.

Asset Forfeiture - This video was created following the indictment in Panama City Beach, FL which included an Asset Forfeiture clause, entitling the government to seize the assets of the club managers and corporation.  The video traces the origin of the law, and discuses the incentives to law enforcement agencies around asset forfeiture laws.
